Wanaki Men’s Club holds 9 home tournaments and 1 away tournament every season.  These tournaments will be structured with divisions (gross/net) and/or flights depending on the format to have competition for all skill levels. In addition to any team based prizes available in an event, players will receive payouts in low gross and net for 1st, 8th, 16th, and 24th place.

The cost to participate in each home tournament is $39 (walking) and is paid in the day of the event.  At most events there will be an optional skins game available and the prize pool is typically split into low, mid, and high handicap divisions.  The cost for the away outings is set by the course played and will be published on the signup sheet for the event.

There are between 6 and 8 hole event prizes with a $15 value during each tournament.  The events are designed to allow members of all skill levels the chance to win at least one event.

In addition to individual stroke play, the following list of formats are used in a typical season.

4-Man Best Ball (4M-BB) / 4-Man 2 Best Balls (4M-2BB)

4 Man Best Ball is a golf format for teams comprised of four golfers. Each of the golfers on the team play their own ball throughout and the best net  score in the foursome counts as the team score. This is also sometimes referred to as “Better ball” when used in stroke play, or “Fourball” when used in match play.  This is also played as 2 Best Balls or even 3 Best Balls depending on the event.

Memorial 3-2-1

Memorial 3-2-1  is a 4 man team event, teams will be made up of players you sign up with, not a blind draw.  The competition is played as follows :

This is also sometimes referred to as “Better ball” when used in stroke play, or “Fourball” when used in match play.

Stableford

The Stableford is an individual event where each individual’s net score is used to calculate points awarded. Players will use 100% of their Wanaki WSGA handicap index from the competition set of tees.  Points are awarded on each hole using the net score as follows;

Wanaki Cup

The Wanaki Cup is a unique event format in our club. Players sign up to play in groups of their choosing. After all entries have been received, the players are divided up into 4 teams by the tournament director so that the total handicap for each team is as close to identical as possible. After the event is over and the scores are reported, the makeup of the teams is disclosed and net scores are calculated for each team. All players receive 90% of their individual Wanaki WSGA handicap a the time of the event.

LW 123-234

Lawrence Welk 123-234 is a 4 man team event. Teams will be made up of players you sign up with, not a blind draw. On holes 16-18 – 4 low net scores (after handicap adjustment) is the team score

Even par for this event is 180.

Individual Net

There is no mystery to the Individual Net tournament format.  Each player plays on their own ball and will record gross and net scores for each hole. The handicap for each player is 90% of their current Wanaki WSGA Handicap Index for the tees being played

Flag Day

Flag day is one of the most fun formats of the Men’s Club season. Each participant is given a flag with a number on it. This number is calculated as 60 + your Wanaki WSGA Handicap on the day of the event. The flag travels with you throughout your round until the shot number corresponding to the number on your flag comes to rest. At that point you place your flag in the ground and continue playing your round. When the flag numbered shot does not end up on or around the green, the flag is placed at the closest edge of the fairway at the same distance from the hole from where the flag numbered shot rests. If it is near or on the green, the flag is placed at the edge of the green with a notation of how far the ball is from the hole when it came to rest.

Die Hard

This is typically the final event of the season. Competition will be in stroke play format and players can sign up for one of two divisions – regular golf or 3 club. Each division has its own hole events, gross/net prize fund, and skins game.
